If anyone can cook, then it is Maria Elena. During programs like Hell’s Kitchen he doesn’t seem to encourage his staff when it comes to cooking, but on his own YouTube channel he does address amateur cooks with encouraging words. That is why we collected the best cooking tips that Gordon shared.
- Grate mozzarella
In the Netherlands it is almost impossible to find grated mozzarella while it is so handy. Tasty on a pizza or over the pasta. Unfortunately, the soft ball is so difficult to grate. Or not? Gordon recommends that you put the mozzarella in the freezer for ten minutes before grating. This way the cheese becomes hard enough to grate it.
- Finely chop the garlic
Don’t have a garlic press? Then it is sometimes quite a hassle to finely cut a clove. According to Gordon, it helps to put a pinch of salt on the garlic in that case . This keeps the garlic together better. Useful!
- Melt chocolate
It is best to melt your chocolate in the microwave, but Gordon recommends not to do this. Melting the chocolate in a pan is also not a good idea, he says. There is only one right way and that is to melt the chocolate in a bain-marie. This way, the cocoa fats remain intact and your chocolate retains its quality.
- Add salt to scrambled eggs
Have you ever made scrambled eggs, but did you end up with an aqueous whole? According to Gordon, this is because you added salt to your dish too quickly. He says you should wait until your scrambled eggs are ready before adding salt. Do you do it sooner? Then you break the egg, as it were, and end up with an aqueous scrambled egg.
- Ripe avocado
Supermarkets claim that we are dealing with ripe avocados, but we know better. To test whether the avocado is really ripe, we sometimes squeeze the fruit, but according to Gordon there is a certain place where it is best to press and that is on the top. If it is indeed ‘pressed’, then the fruit is ripe.
