Several years ago, I made a knife block out of a raw old metal can, which I filled up with wooden sticks. I think it became a functional storage solution and at the same time a decorative detail. As an added bonus, it has been shown that it is nice to have a wooden stick at hand when it comes to checking the cooking time of potatoes. This means that I fill it up a couple of times a year, because otherwise a vegetable knife easily slips down between the sticks. Several have asked if the wooden sticks make the knives dull, but that has never been my feeling. Here you can see my own knife block, and also other suggestions for how the knife block can have different expressions. It is a good idea to look at the kitchen and see what is and what is missing. Is the kitchen white, black, wood, steel, granite and so on what can be added, so the knife block becomes a nice and decorative detail? You can make it for your own kitchen, and it can also be a moving-in gift or a ‘congratulations on the new kitchen’ gift. Below you can see the knife block in several versions and there are many more… depending on which can, hide or jar YOU find. Learn more about clean your knife block

Knife block with glow and at the same time a minimalist look
You can create a combination of the two expressions by putting the wooden sticks in a completely straight glass container. Here it is a square and narrow glass vase, and the shape is also convenient to have standing along the wall or up against a tall cabinet.
How many wooden sticks do you need?
Measure the height and the inside circumference of the jar so you know what height the pegs should have and how many bundles of wooden pegs you should buy. The sticks can be made of bamboo or beech wood, and they are available in several heights. The wooden sticks are available at several prices, and they often get cheaper if you buy many at once. If you search the web, remember that they are called wooden sticks, wooden skewers and barbecue skewers. You can also find them cheaply at Søstrene Grene, Harald Nyborg and similar places. The sticks I show here are made of bamboo. They are 3 mm thick and a bundle of 100 pieces has a circumference of 12 centimeters. As an example, the inside circumference of the white container is 48 cm. If you multiply that number by itself and multiply it by 0.7 (48 * 48 * 0.7) then it gives approx. 1600 pinde. Maybe you can use the calculation as a clue if you order wooden sticks online.Harald Nyborg with 100 pieces costs 9 kroner. Remember to buy plenty so you can fill up once in a while.
