Every day we consume a lot of gas and electricity from, for example, the television, telephone charger, while showering and heating. We unnoticed consume much more gas and electricity than necessary. In this article tips to save a lot on this cost item at home.
1. Sweater on
Very cliché, but true. Put on a sweater instead of your stove to turn 20 degrees. Winters are often chilly in the Netherlands and we spend at least three quarters of the year indoors, often with the heating on. That costs a lot of electricity. So look for a nice warm sweater or a blanket and wrap it around you. Much cheaper and just as warm.
2. Close the curtains nicely
Although almost every house nowadays has double glazing, cold still enters through the glass. To keep your house at the right temperature, it is wise to keep the curtains closed as much as possible. If you are working during the day, you will not be bothered by the falling light, but you will enjoy a less cold house in the evening.
3. Wash by hand
Water is a relatively cheap substance, but it still counts if you use a lot of water. A lot of water is used during washing, both in clothes and in the dishwasher. Do not switch on the washing machine until it is full.
With only a few items of clothing that need to be washed, you can use a short program at a slightly higher temperature. Remember with the dishwasher that it is best to use crockery such as glass and breakfast plates twice or, if necessary, to wash them by hand.
4. Only 5 minutes
When several people take a shower for several minutes a day, the number of liters of water that is rinsed off increases considerably. I agree that everyone can shower for a fixed number of minutes. Activities such as brushing your teeth and shaving can also be done outside the shower.
Do you want to save a lot of money and water? Then do not take a shower every day, but for example, you wash every other day with a washcloth by the sink. Also, read our article to make yourself and your children shower shorter.
5. Turn off the TV
After watching television, grab the remote and turn it off. Many people then forget to turn off the television themselves and leave the TV on standby.
If you turn off the TV before you go to bed, the device will remain on all night and possibly day (if you have to work), which is a shame. Also, old televisions that are on standby can easily catch fire. So it is important to turn off the television. chicken has published an interesting article to get your TV out the door.
6. Pull out the plug
Unbranded energy guzzlers are also chargers. Today, much electronic equipment is rechargeable, such as toothbrushes, cameras, and batteries. After a few hours, these are charged, but you often forget to remove the plug from the socket. So teach yourself to clean up the charger in time (or use a power strip to save power).
