To extend the life of your washing machine and your laundry, we have listed the best advice for you. A child can do the laundry, I promise.
Tip 1: sort your laundry
Start sorting your laundry by checking the washing instructions in your garment. For example, there are washing Tips for:
- Normal washing program
- Anti-crease program
- Hand wash only
- Do not wash or soak
Sort your whites, colored laundry and 60 ℃ laundry (towels and bed linen). Place heavily soiled items together in the drum. Make sure you always empty the pockets of your clothes and close all zippers and buttons. This way you protect both your laundry and your washing machine.
Tip 2: choose the right washing program
Washing machine programs
The number of available washing programs differs per washing machine. Which one you need depends on your laundry. Choose a full cotton program for heavily soiled laundry. If you want to refresh lightly soiled laundry, a short program is sufficient. When you wash at low temperatures, you save up to 30% on your energy costs and ensure that your laundry stays beautiful longer.
Tip 3: protect your laundry
Put lingerie in a special laundry bag (or if you don’t have one at home: in a pillowcase that you close with safety pins). This way you prevent bra underwires from damaging another laundry (and the washing machine). You turn clothes with a print inside out; this way the print stays beautiful for longer. To keep the color longer, you also pay attention to the detergent. For example, if you have a lot of dark shirts, buy detergent for a dark wash.
Tip 4: pay attention to the fill weight
Try to stick to the recommended load capacity of your washing machine. An overfull drum will damage the washing machine and your laundry will not be cleaned properly. In addition, pay attention to the recommended detergent and fabric softener. If you use too much, there is a chance that your washing machine will scale. If you use the right amount, you will prevent limescale and your detergent will last longer. You don’t have to buy new ones so quickly.
Tip 5: clean the washing machine from time to time
Washing machine drum
To keep your washing machine in top condition, it is important that you clean it regularly. Regularly run a cloth over the detergent drawer and clean the fluff filter. It is also recommended to run a 90 een wash once a month. This prevents detergent and dirt residue from remaining and your drum stays nice and fresh.
